"I am privileged and honored to represent our typical client, and I listen to their stories, I am often reminded of words used by Lincoln, Roosevelt, Jefferson and Murrow. This is because our clients frequently dissent from their governments, but they do not confuse dissent with disloyalty, even if their home countries may find their views to be wrong, unpopular, eccentric or unorthodox.
When their home country denies them their right as as individuals to dissent, they know that the denial not only limits their own freedoms as individuals, but that it also limits the confidence of the other men and women in their country, patriots who aspire to obtain freedom and independence for their children and countrymen. These are same freedoms of which we speak in our own country, and for which our ancestors fought.
Their dissent displays their desire to seek to change the world by daring mighty things. The probability that they may fail in the struggle does not to deter them from supporting causes they know to be just and they seek to win glorious triumphs, even though their efforts may be checkered by failure.
Some, through patient suffering may have recognized that their governments have become destructive, and when those governments commit long trains of abuses and usurpations, designed to reduce them under absolute Despotism, they know that it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. They work for these goals and know them to be better than those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
